Conditions treated

Cancers managed in this speciality

Ovarian cancer

Epithelial and other ovarian malignancies — often requiring cytoreductive (debulking) surgery.

Cervical cancer

One of the most common cancers among Indian women; preventable and treatable when found early.

Endometrial (uterine) cancer

Cancer of the uterine lining, typically presenting with post-menopausal bleeding.

Vulval & vaginal cancers

Less common cancers managed with tailored surgery and reconstruction planning.

Borderline ovarian tumours

Low-malignant-potential tumours, with fertility considerations in young women.

Gestational trophoblastic disease

Rare pregnancy-related tumours, managed with the wider oncology team.

Warning signs

Symptoms that deserve attention

These symptoms do not always mean cancer — but they should never be ignored. Early evaluation makes treatment simpler and outcomes better.

When to see a doctor: if any of these symptoms persist beyond two to three weeks, seek evaluation promptly. Early-stage cancers are far more treatable — and often curable.

The care pathway

From accurate diagnosis to the right operation

Diagnosis & staging

  • Pelvic examination & ultrasound as first-line assessment
  • CECT / MRI / PET-CECT for staging
  • Tumour markers — CA-125 and others as indicated
  • Biopsy / endometrial sampling for tissue diagnosis
  • Screening note — regular Pap smear / HPV testing can prevent most cervical cancers

Surgical treatment

  • Staging laparotomy for ovarian and endometrial cancers
  • Cytoreductive (debulking) surgery for advanced ovarian cancer
  • Radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy for early cervical cancer
  • Fertility-sparing approaches in carefully selected young patients
  • Coordinated chemotherapy & radiation with the multidisciplinary team

Why patients choose Dr. Akash

Dr. Akash's M.Ch. training at Tata Memorial Hospital included focused exposure to gynaecological malignancies — from radical pelvic surgery to complex ovarian cytoreduction — always planned through multidisciplinary tumour board review.

Every case is planned through multidisciplinary discussion — so surgery, chemotherapy and radiation work together, in the right order, for the best outcome.
