Conditions treated

Cancers managed in this speciality

Pancreatic cancer

Including locally advanced disease — the focus of Dr. Akash's Visiting Fellowship at Heidelberg, Germany.

Gallbladder cancer

Highly prevalent in the Gangetic belt of North India; an area of Dr. Akash's published research.

Liver cancer (HCC)

Hepatocellular carcinoma and other primary liver tumours.

Bile duct cancer

Cholangiocarcinoma of the intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile ducts.

Periampullary tumours

Cancers arising near the ampulla of Vater, treated with pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Liver metastases

Resectable secondary tumours, most commonly from colorectal cancer.

Warning signs

Symptoms that deserve attention

These symptoms do not always mean cancer — but they should never be ignored. Early evaluation makes treatment simpler and outcomes better.

When to see a doctor: if any of these symptoms persist beyond two to three weeks, seek evaluation promptly. Early-stage cancers are far more treatable — and often curable.

The care pathway

From accurate diagnosis to the right operation

Diagnosis & staging

  • Triple-phase CECT / MRI-MRCP for detailed pancreatic and biliary imaging
  • Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with biopsy where required
  • Tumour markers — CA 19-9 and CEA as triage and monitoring tools
  • PET-CECT and staging assessment for metastatic disease
  • Multidisciplinary review to define resectability and sequence of treatment

Surgical treatment

  • Whipple operation (pancreaticoduodenectomy) for pancreatic head and periampullary tumours
  • Distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy for body & tail tumours
  • Radical cholecystectomy with liver wedge resection and lymphadenectomy for gallbladder cancer
  • Liver resections for primary and secondary liver tumours
  • Vascular resection & reconstruction concepts in locally advanced pancreatic cancer

Why patients choose Dr. Akash

Dr. Akash completed a Visiting Fellowship in advanced pancreatic surgery at Heidelberg University Hospital, Germany, under Prof. Christoph Michalski, and has published research on CEA & CA 19-9 as triage tools in gallbladder cancer in the Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer.

Every case is planned through multidisciplinary discussion — so surgery, chemotherapy and radiation work together, in the right order, for the best outcome.
